This test is run for patients with history of having been bitten by bloodsucking insects such as mosquitoes, ticks, lice, Triatoma bugs, or fleas looking for parasites such as Malaria, Babesia, Trypanosoma, Wuchereria, Brugia, Loa, or Onchocerca. We identify 2 species of Babesia (American malaria, an important co-infection of Lyme) usually found in Northeast America in cases with history of Ixodes ticks bites. Other species of ticks have spread the infection elsewhere in the country. Additionally, metabolic dysfunctions such as vitamin deficiencies, free radical damage, pancreatic and liver disorders detectable from blood cell abnormalities are reported. Testing package is included.
The Thin blood smear test results will be available 3-5 days after receipt of specimens.
